The anticipated gain is based on the fact that over 60 million engines are built and installed in new cars, trucks and buses every year. The LIM system should be installed, eventually, in most of them.

The LIM system adds value because it is simpler, smaller, less expensive and more fuel efficient. These claims are made because the laboratory prototypes run very well, without the camshaft and exhaust valves found in almost all conventional engines. LIM engines make power in each cylinder during each revolution, nearly doubling torque, and reducing the need for high RPM; this saves a great deal of friction and internal inertial losses.

Just like conventional four-stroke engines, there is a reservoir of oil in the crank case, but no camshaft or exhaust valves, saving weight, friction and money. LIM type engines will deliver more power for their cost, weight and fuel consumption.
