SCDi Engines
SPRINGLESS Valve Control

Thank you for taking a look at our innovative engine. A single cylinder working prototype exists. Its patented cycle works well with either a spring managed valve including a simple means of variable valve timing by non-cyclical adjustment of the valve retrieval spring, as shown in the www.limtechnology.com web site, or may work even better with a Pneumodromic valve, as explained above.

In our SCDi engines, exhaust leaves via the ports around the girth of the cylinder. Air for combustion and incidental cooling is admitted through the patented valves, spring or Pneumodromic, at the top of the cylinder.Cylinder pressure is ample to keep the valves closed during compression and combustion; Pressure in the input manifold is greater than that of the cylinder only when the exhaust ports are exposed, allowing exhaust to escape; the valves are opened by air pressure, which is always accumulating in the input manifold when the valves are closed. Physical work leading to this concept began in 1999; two US patents have been issued, and more applied for. International patents are pending, nearly everywhere. Existing prototypes and tests confirm the feasibility of both our original valve designs and the SCDi engine.

Although, in the animation, we show a mechanical system for timing valve retrieval, we plan to experiment with an electronically managed electro-magnetic system so that a micro-processor could manage the valve timing with great precision.
